Defining Beauty

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet”

– Shakespeare

Defining Beauty. What is it? What does it evoke to describe something or someone as beautiful? Do we, or can we define beauty? I think that if we have to define beauty, then we are already lost. The magnificence that underlies this creation does not seem to be restricted in its depiction of beauty. If we look at the following two pictures we might instantly say which one we would label as beautiful and I bet the majority of us would not pick the fly with the connotation it has in our society.

Now, here is the catch. What if we look at these two creations, each with their own abilities and survival skill set? Can we appreciate both of them for the amazing creative force that lies behind their existence and do the same with all of the creatures on this planet? To define something is to stroke our ego with the hand of judgement. The ideal would be to define something based solely on the creation behind it. When we look at ourselves and the people around us, can we apply the same? We were created and walk this planet with the essence of everything inside of us all. We are the bubbles manifested by the breath of life. Some of us will linger longer, whilst others burst out of existence within a blink of an eye. So does it really matter if we judge something as beautiful or not? May we trade our judgement of beauty for awe of beauty, then everything will be beautiful.
