Do we care what happens after death? Some people do and I think it is impossible as a human on this planet not to have the thought at least once in our lifetime. There are so many different religions with sincere and not so sincere followers that adhere to their doctrines. They all have different views on the afterlife or even the fact that one exists. There are people who sincerely believe that they have the answer and that they can help, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions…
It is a fact that faith can overcome science if we just look at all the tests that have been done with placebos and if we observe the many miraculous stories where healing took place that science cannot explain. Then again, we also know that science can overcome faith. No matter who you are, the chances of you surviving when a two ton boulder rolls over your physical body and pulverises it, are less than desirable if you want to cling to life.
“Whatever occupies the mind at the time of death determines the destination of the dying; always they will tend toward that state of being”
This verse or shloka which can be found in the Bhagavad Gita in chapter 8, seems simple but the consequences are profound. Where will we be at the time of our death and what will our thoughts hold onto when this time comes? Amongst all the doctrines and beliefs, this one makes sense to me. Why? First of all when reading The unquiet dead by Edith Fiore, it seems that there is a thing like spirit possession, but it is not nearly as ominous as we would believe. These spirits seem to not want to make their transitions to another place because they felt some form of punishment awaits them on the other side due to unresolved emotional issues. How amazing to read something that is as old as time and to see its wisdom acting out in our current time. So, how do we transition this world without something holding us back? We need to be at peace when the moment of death arrives. When our words are spoken while we are alive, let them be true.
Our actions will always affect others, let our actions stem from kindness. Our hearts will eventually give its last beat, let this final beat send resonance of unconditional love throughout the universe.
